2026 Charleston Speedway Crown Vic Rules

TO ALL COMPETITORS

>>>The SPIRIT of this set of rules governing The Crown Vic Class at The Charleston Speedway is to facilitate the creation of an affordable, entry-level division as a way for more individuals to enter the sport of stock car racing.<<<

The rules and/or regulations set forth herein provide for the orderly conduct & governance of racing events as well as establish minimum acceptable requirements of such events.

All participants are deemed to have agreed to comply with these rules.

No expressed or implied warranty of safety shall result from publications of or compliance with these rules and/or regulations.

Rules are intended as a guide for the conduct of the sport and are in no way a guarantee against injury or death to a participant.

Charleston Speedway Officials shall be empowered to permit minor deviations from any of the specifications herein or impose any further restrictions that in his/her opinion does not alter the minimum acceptable requirements.

No expressed or implied warranty of safety shall result from such alteration of specifications.

Charleston Speedway reserves the right to update, modify, and/or delete rules at any time deemed necessary to ensure safety, fair competition or any other reason that may be appropriate.

Cars, parts and or equipment will not be considered as having been approved by having passed through inspection at any time or number of times unobserved or undetected.

Any interpretation or deviation of these rules is left to Charleston Speedway Officials.

Any decision of and by Charleston Speedway Officials is final.

Unsportsmanlike conduct can carry a minimum $100.00 fine and/or suspension. All discussions with officials must be conducted in a professional manor.

All competitors, crew members and teams will be expected to comply with the GENERAL RULES of the Charleston Speedway as well.​

1.1 - Car/Chassis/Body

A. Only Ford Crown Victoria, Mercury Grand Marquis, Ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptor, or Lincoln Town Car 1991 and newer.

B. Keeping the cars VERY stock is the PRIORITY!

C. Changes not listed in these rules are not allowed .

D. Ballast – No adding of any weight to the entire car.

   1. Track can add weight to any competitor at any time.

   2. Weight minimum is 2,950 lbs.

   3. No adding of lead in doors, cage, or any other location.

 

1.2 - Exterior

A. All glass must be removed.

B. All mirrors must be removed.

C. Bumpers – Must have stock bumper or one 1-3/4" round tubing front bumper.

   1. Ends must turn back towards the frame.

   2. No wider than 3” past the frame rails.

   3. NO SQUARE TUBING.

D. Any sharp edges or points must be addressed.

E. One towing loop on front and rear is required.

F. Hood and Trunk – Must have hood type pins for easy access by track officials.

   1. Bolted hoods or truck lids are NOT allowed.

   2. Louvers in hood or hood scoop are allowed.

G. Car Number

   1. Numbers must appear on both front doors and on the roof.

   2. Door and roof numbers shall be a minimum of 18” tall and 3” in line thickness.

   3. Numbers must contrast in color (light vs dark) from car color.

   4. The roof number needs to be facing the passenger side of the car.

   5. There must be a 6” number on the front and rear of the car, easily read by other

       drivers and officials while the car is on the track.

1.3 - Interior

A. Roll Cage– Mandatory 4-point cage with 1-1/2" x .095 tubing with 4 curved door bars on the driver’s side and 4 straight bars can be used on the passenger side.

   1. Must have a bar that connects left and right legs of hoop behind driver’s seat just

       above the driveshaft tunnel and another one welded at approximately half the

       distance from the top of driveshaft tunnel to the roof.

   2. Cage must be welded to the frame and not the floor pan.

   3. A driver’s door plate 18” x 48” 1/4” thick is HIGHLY recommended. Plate can be

       inside cage or outside of cage.

   4. Cage must not be setback past the front of rear floorboard.

   5. No offset cages.

   6. No down bars.

   7. All roll cages must be painted.

   8. All roll cages must pass tech inspection before it can be used in competition.

B. Seat & Belts – A racing seat is required along with a 5-point racing harness. Belts can be no older than 3 years past the clearly marked manufacturer dates on them. (2022 OLDEST allowed in 2025) C. Window Net – A properly mounted window net is mandatory and must be used at all times on track.

D. Steering Column – Must remain in stock location. Adding of a quick disconnect steering wheel is allowed.

E. Windshield – Must have 2 half inch bars in front of driver for protection. (Metal screen is recommended but not mandatory).

F. Dash – Must be in stock location but does not have to remain stock.

G. Airbag – All airbags in the entire car must be removed.

H. Pedals – Must remain in stock location. No extensions or alterations of any kind.

I. Fuel Kill Switch is REQUIRED. Must be located in rear of deck, just behind driver. Switch can kill only the fuel, but preferably a “kill all” switch/battery disconnect switch will be used.

2.1 - Drive Train

A. Engine must remain an entirely stock 4.6L SOHC engine (No high compression dome top piston versions).

B. Intake manifold- must remain OEM stock.

C. Computer/ECM- only OEM stock computers will be allowed. Track officials reserve the right to swap computers among competitors at any time.

D. Cold air intakes are allowed or any aftermarket air intake filtration system that remains in the spirit of OEM stock filter system.

E. Manual cooling fan allowed.

F. Battery may remain in OEM stock location or can be moved inside drivers compartment but must be securely mounted and covered.

G. Exhaust – Can be whatever you like.

    1. Pipes must go beyond the driver area and exit to the side or rear.

    2. Catalytic converter may be replaced with pipe.

    3. Note: there are o2 sensors on some years that need to be left in place for the

        engine to run well.

H. Transmission – Must remain entirely stock as from the original manufacturer. NO MODIFICATIONS!

I. Rear End – You may weld the spider gears or use factory posi-traction. You may change the gear ratio.

J. Suspension – No altering of the suspension.

    1. Sway bar may be removed including sway bar links.

    2. No spacers of any kind.

    3. No air ride suspension.

    4. No cutting, no heating, no altering of springs and no lowering of springs.

    5. Shocks and springs can only be replaced by same stock parts or OEM

        replacements.

    6. Front and rear springs must match coil for coil, free height, and wire diameter

        (Can cut two 2” holes above rear shocks to access top shock nut).

     7. Shocks must be Monroe, KYB, Ford Factory OEM replacement or equivalent or

         Sensi-trac.

    8. NO RACING SHOCKS PERIOD!

K. Caster & Camber – You may adjust as factory adjustments allow.

    1. May run factory length aftermarket camber bolts in upper control arms.

    2. No other modifications.

L. Tires – D.O.T. tires only.

    1. These tire sizes only 235/55/17, 225/60/16, and 215/70/15 .

    2. Only highway type tires are allowed. These types of tires are not allowed:

         Snow tires --

        High performance tires--

        Directional tires--

        Tires that cost more than $124.99--

        Autocross tires--

    3. ALL tires must be same size on ALL FOUR corners.

    4. Tire treatment or softening of any kind will not be permitted.

M. Wheels – Must be stock aluminum, stock steel, Charger or Ranger wheels.

    1. All 4 wheels must be the same size and offset.

    2. No wheel spacers.

    3. No offset wheels on cars 2001 and newer.

    4. No racing wheels.

3.1 - Safety

A. Drivers – Must wear a clearly-labeled helmet that meets or exceeds the 2010 SA Snell or SFI 31.2 standards.

    1. Fire resistant suit, racing shoes and racing gloves are mandatory and required to

        be worn during all on track activities.

    2. The use of an approved neck brace or Hans style device is highly recommended.

B. Only SFI 45.1 roll bar padding may be used. Knee, steering pads and/or additional padding may be utilized.

C. All teams MUST have an easily accessible fire extinguisher or its equivalent in the team’s pit area.

D. It is the sole responsibility of each competitor to verify the effectiveness, ensure proper installation per the manufacturer’s specifications, and properly use, every component of the competitors safety equipment.

E. All drivers must have and utilize one way Raceceiver device to receive guidance and direction from race control.

F. Two-way radios, or any other type of electronic communication device for communication between driver and crew/team/friend/fan is strictly forbidden.

 

4.1 - Other

A. Tech –  All cars must go thru tech inspection at its first visit to the Charleston Speedway. After each feature the top 3 finishers and any other cars selected by race control, will go to the tech area. Drivers are allowed 1 crew member to assist with tech if deemed necessary by race control.

B. Cheating – If you are found with any performance enhancing computers, or performance aftermarket parts; the car and the driver will be suspended/disqualified from competition.1st  offense will result in driver and car disqualification from that event. 2nd  offense will result in driver and car disqualification from that event in addition to possible suspensions from future competition.
